It can be reduced by using better technology, technology that is more efficient and ensures that less time is wasted in the overall production. Over production Over production leads to wastage, as it creates a scenario where more products are produced, yet little of it is used. In order to deal with the issue, it would be important for the management of the company to match supply and demand, only producing a sufficient amount of material that can be sold in the market. Ov er processing Over processing means more material and even energy than is necessary is used. It leads to wastage in energy and manpower. Over processing will also imply engaging in processes that re completely unnecessary. These processes are completely unnecessary the company can do without them. Defects Defects are wastes. They are products a company produces yet they re defective. They cannot be used gainfully. They represent loss for a company. Defects occur when a company does not follow the right procedures in producing substances (Casson 2007). The internal combustion system has heat exchange system. A circulating fluid, engine coolant, cools the engine as it flows through radiator coils. On the other hand, radiators transfer thermal energy across different media. They are used for cooling and heating. Most radiators are designed to function in buildings, electronic and automobiles. Radiators release heat into the environment. From the data studied, the major problem was t hat electronic devices used at the radiators and the heat exchangers were smaller. This presented a problem of dispersing heat (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers 2005). Usually, smaller radiators known as heat sinks convey heat across electronic components. The heat is conveyed from electronic components and released into cooling air stream. In order to improve output of the heat exchangers and the radiators, the company should consider limitation in design for various heat exchanger types. Cost is a primary criterion that they should consider, but they should not consider it at the expense of performance. Future expansion Currently, the company is using larger-diameter coil technology. These are not as efficient as the small-diameter coils used by major radiation and heat exchangers. They do not have better heat transfer capabilities; their rate of heat transfer is quite low. This is not good enough. As it is, evaporator coils with alumin um and copper tubes are the standards used in HVAC industry. Small diameter coils have the capability of withstanding higher pressures. This is line with the evolution of the new environment-friendly refrigerants. The best recommendation for the company is use of microgroove and the aluminum micro-channels. These have improved efficiencies, and the company should consider using them, instead (Creative Education Video 2005). There are different heat exchanger types in the market with improved capabilities that the company should consider using in order to improve efficiency. Some of the heat exchangers and radiators that I would recommend for the company are kettle HX for cooling, double pipe HX and optimum requirements. It is also important that they vary heating requirements and operation environment. They can optimize these factors for best outputs for their company. Equally important is the realization that commercial heat exchangers can be tracked by an overall heat transfer c oefficient. Usually, this coefficient varies due to fouling. The coefficient is given by the relationship U=Q/AΆTlm . Monitoring and maintenance The company can calculate heat transfer coefficient from temperatures and heat exchanger flow rates. From the calculation, they can estimate instances when the heat exchangers are economically attractive. Integrity inspection is also important. The tubular and plate exchangers can be tested by helium gas methods or through conductivity. The methods are very reliable in that they confirm integrity tubes of or plates (Society of Automotive Engineers & World Congress 2008). By confirming the integrity of the tubes and plates, quality engineers at the in radiator and heat exchanger companies can prevent contamination across terminals used in the processes. It can also help to check the conditions of gaskets used in the reactions. Monitoring mechanical integrity of heat exchanger tubes can be conducted by eddy current testing (Society of Automotive Engineers & World Congress 2008). Fouling is a terminology used in radiators and heat exchangers to mean occurrence of deposits of impurit ies on surfaces of heat exchange. When these impurities are deposited on the surfaces, they decrease effectiveness of heat transfer with time. Deterioration of wall shear stress, low and high fluid velocities, precipitation reactions and dissolved impurities causes fouling. Generally, to reduce fouling, the recommendation for the company would be that they check the reactants that they use for impurities. This may involve purification of the reactants. Crude Oil Exchanger Fouling Commercial crude oil refinery involves heating crude oils from room temperature to 343 degrees Celsius. This is prior to the heated substance entering distillation columns. Tube and shell heat exchangers are used to exchange heat between oil streams and crude oil streams. The crude oil is heated to 260 degrees Celsius before being transferred to the heating furnace (Casson 2007). Fouling occurs due to insolubility of asphalting. Cooling water has higher impurity content. Sometimes, wall temperatures becom e higher than fluid temperatures. A low fluid velocity allows suspended solids to settle on the surfaces of heat exchangers. This reduces efficiency. In order to avoid this, it is important for the company to improve purification of the substances that they use at the plant and the refinery systems at the company. The company should ensure that the cooling fluid velocity is in excess of 0.9 m/s (Society of Automotive Engineers & SAE World Congress 2008). The temperatures should also be maintained at less than 60 degrees Celsius. Application of anti-scale chemicals and biocides can also be used to control fouling. Another recommendation that works is periodic lab testing of chemicals the company uses. This can be costly, but for overall efficiency and effectiveness of output, the company must consider testing the chemicals it uses. Maintenance Maintenance of radiators and heat exchangers involve periodic cleaning and disassembly of plate heat exchangers. From the analysis of the t ube data the company presented, it would be in order that the company cleans tubular heat exchangers through acid cleaning, high pressure jets, drill rods, sandblasting and bullet cleaning. Where the company has large-scale systems for cooling, addition of chemicals to treat water used in the process is highly recommended. This ensures that fouling is reduced. As a playwright, William Shakespeare has few, if indeed any, colleagues of equal renown. He skillfully created works of incredible diversity; some tragic, others historical, and yet others comedic. Of this last genre, Shakespeares play, The Merchant of Venice is an example. Through an excerpt defining comic literature by Northrop Frye, we can carefully examine this play and more fully discern why it is considered a comedy. According to Frye, New Comedy presents a romantic intrigue between a man and a woman, hindered by an opposition controlling their present society. A twist in the plot resolves the conflict, allowing the couple to live merrily in an idyllic society.Love has been said to make the world go around, and upon studying the contents of The Merchant of Venice, the interest in the matters of love is certainly found to be pervasive. Many references to romantic intrigues are made, establishing the play as one of New Comedy. One of the chief couples in The Merchant of Ve nice is that of Bassanio and Portia. The intrigue to romance is first presented through Bassanio regarding Portia. He confides to Antonio, In Belmont is a lady/And she is fair, and fairer than that word,/Of wondrous virtues.Her name is Portia (Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 161-165). Through this passage, Bassanio reveals he is smitten with Portia. In his estimation, Bassanio also feels certain he could woo the lady: many Jasons come in quest of her/[were] I [able]/To hold a rival place with one of them/I should questionless be fortunate! (Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 173-176). Once in Portias presence, he says to her, Promise me life and Ill confess the truth.love/Had been the very sum of my confession! (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 33-36). In declaring himself, Bassanio reveals to his lady his amorous feelings for her. At yet another instance, Bassanio shows himself to be besotted with fair Portia, while scrutinizing a portrait of this last: Yet look, how far/The substance of my praise doth wrong this shadow/In underprizing it (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 126-128). Confirming beyond doubt the feelings Bassanio has for Portia, are his words to Antonio: I am married to a wife/Which is as dear to me as life itself (Act 4, Scene 1, ll. 280-281). From these excerpts, the love Bassanio holds for the lady Portia is virtually palpable. There is an undeniable romantic intrigue throughout The Merchant of Venice, on Bassanios behalf.However, Bassanio is not the only soul to be struck by Cupids arrow. The object of his affections is, in her own turn, smitten. Portia complements the love Bassanio holds for her, with her own partiality for him. Although Portia is not as outspoken as Bassanio, she says to her maid, I remember him well, and I remember him worthy of thy praise, in response the Nerissas observation of Bassanio: He, of all the men that ever my/foolish eyes looked upon, was the best deserving a fair/lady. (Act 1, Scene 2, ll. 108-112). Once the object of her affections has come, Port ia begs of him: I pray you tarry/Before you hazard, for in choosing wrong/I lose your company (Act 3, Scene 1, ll. 1-3). With these words, Portia discloses her feelings to Bassanio. She reaffirms them, when she exclaims to Bassanio: One half of me is yours, the other half yours-/Mine own I would say; but if mine then yours,/And so all yours! (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 16-18). When Bassanio successfully gains Portias hand in marriage, she says in sheer ecstasy, O love./I feel too much thy blessing (Act 3, Scene 2, l. 61). Once more does Portia emphasize her love for Bassanio, telling him, Since you are dear bought, I will love you dear (Act 2, Scene 3, l. 313). Through the comments of an extolling Portia, there is irrefutable evidence of her amorous fascination with Bassanio. Frequent are the references to love when Bassanio or Portia speak. Thus The Merchant of Venice meets one of the requirements of a New Comedy play as defined by Northrop Frye-romantic intrigue between a man and a woman.Life is not always a bowl of cherries, and within the texts of The Merchant of Venice, this fact becomes startlingly clear. The play is beset with pitfalls and obstructions, which are solved by an intricate pattern of entangled events. These hindrances, imposed upon the lovers Bassanio and Portia, and their resolutions, help identify this drama as one of New Comedy. Initially, the largest impediment facing Bassanio was his lack of funds: Tis not unknown to you, Antonio,/How much I have disabled mine estate (Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 122-123). As a result of his self-professed poorness, Bassanio cannot afford to try and win Portia. Again to Antonio, he confides, had I but the means/I have a mind presages me such thrift/That I should questionless be fortunate! (Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 173-176). Upon hearing this, Antonio offers aid to Bassanio: my credit/Shall be racked even to the uttermost/To furnish thee to Belmont, to fair Portia (Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 180-182). In this fashio n, Bassanio is able to obtain enough money to make worthy suit to Portia. Coincidentally, however, Antonios generosity to Bassanio blocks the latters happiness further on in the play. To loan Bassanio the amount he needed to woo Portia, Antonio borrowed from Shylock, who agreed to take for collateral: an equal pound/of your fair flesh, to be cut off and taken/In what part of your body pleaseth me (Act 1, Scene 3, ll. 145-147). Antonio sealed to that bond, (Act 1, Scene 3, l. 148), and was held to it when he was unable to repay Shylock by the set date. Bassanio received news of the forfeiture, and in distress tells Portia: When I told you/My state was nothing, I should then have told you/That I was worse than nothing; for indeed/I haveEngaged my friend to his mere enemy/To feed my means (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 258-263). Antonios one wish is to see Bassanio before he dies from the forfeiture of his bond. (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 317-319). In haste Bassanio departs from Portia, who hed not yet wed when Antonios letter arrived. The forfeiture of Antonios bond is yet another barrier to Bassanios peaceful and contented life. This is resolved with a twist when unknown to all, his new wife, Portia, disguises herself as a judge and presides over Shylocks case. She uses the illusory quality of language against Shylock, and succeeds in saving Antonios life. (Act 4, Scene 1, ll. 322-334). Were it not for the twist in the plot where Portia, acting as judge, saves Antonio from certain death, Bassanio would have forever been denied the happiness he sought. He would have been plagued by the death of his dear friend, I will be bound to pay it ten times oer/On forfeit of my hands, my head, my heart (Act 4, Scene 1, ll. 209-210). Having resolved the conflict, Portia makes her way back home, where she greets Bassanio and Antonio, both free of any debts, to live in tranquility and love. The above quotes of characters in The Merchant of Venice point steadily to the play bei ng one of New Comedy.As fortune might have it, life often presents more than one trial to be overcome by poor hapless individuals. It is no different in The Merchant of Venice. While Bassanio has his own financial difficulties, Portia is disallowed her freedom of choice, and therefore her contentment, in the matters of love. In his will, her deceased father explained the way in which Portia would find a suitor. Portia chaffs under the restrictions imposed upon her, and she makes it known while complaining to Nerissa, If I live to be as old as Sibylla, I will die as chaste/as Diana unless I be obtained by the manner of my/fathers will (Act 1, Scene 2, ll. 98-100). Though Nerissa reminds her lady that the lottry/that [your father] hath devised/will no doubt never be chosen by any rightly but/one who you shall rightly love (Act 1, Scene 2, ll. 27-31), Portia remains unhappy. This is evident through her words: I/may neither choose who I would nor refuse who I/dislike, so is the w ill of a living daughter curbed by the will/of a dead father.I cannot choose one,/nor refuse none (Act 1, Scene 2, ll. 21-25). Though many suitors come to try their luck for Portias hand, none are successful. Portia exclaims, O these deliberate fools! When they do choose,/They have the wisdom by their wit to lose (Act 2, Scene 9, ll. 79-80). She implies that all of those potential suitors were egotistical idiots, and therefore unlike the one who would choose correctly. He turns out to be Bassanio, who has wisdom enough not to make the same mistakes as earlier suitors: There is no vice so simple but assumes/Some mark of virtue on his outward parts (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 81-82). Sent to his fate by Portias words, If you do love me, you will find me out (Act 3, Scene 2, l. 41) Bassanio remarks to himself while regarding the three caskets, The world is still deceived with ornament (Act 3, Scene 2, l. 74). Bassanios choice is affected by his wisdom and humbleness: thou meager lead/W hich rather threatenst than dost promise aught,/here choose I (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 104-107). Due to his prudence and humility, Bassanio is awarded the hand of Portia: You that choose not by the view/Chance as fair, and choose as true./ Turn to where your lady is,/And claim her with a loving kiss (Act 3, Scene 2, ll. 131-138). If not for the twist in the plot preventing another suitor of equal intelligence and modesty from first winning Portias hand, she and Bassanio would have been denied sharing the love they held for each other. The flow of events allowed Bassanio to turn up at the right time, and to possess the qualities desired by Portias dead father in a husband for his daughter. As a result, Bassanio wins Portias hand according to her fathers desires, and they are happily married. The fashion in which the difficulty imposed by Portias father is resolved, leads to the conclusion that The Merchant of Venice is indeed of New Comedy genre.Returning to Northrop Fryes definitio n of New Comedy, it presents a romantic intrigue between a young man and a young womanblocked by some kind of opposition (Frye, The Anatomy of Criticism). Background of the case study In one of my recent professional experience, I have come across a 72 years old patient named Mr HD who had to be undergone surgery on the same day of admission to the hospital. The man was admitted to the hospital owing to pain due to appendicitis. However, one of the issues encountered by me while attending the patient was that the no objection' consent form was not signed by the patient. I tried reciprocating the same to the patient, only to realise that he was a German speaking man and could not decipher my message. Thus, I had to take the help of a language interpreter for understanding the messages communicated to me by Mr HD. Cultural and language differences possesses a major hindrance in the obtainment of objectives of health and care (Birks et al., 2016). Noticing From my initial assessment of the situation, I realized that the man had great difficulty in comprehending any of the instruction or messages delivered to him within the care centre. This could be attributed to the language or cultural differences possessed by the man. In this respect, as a nursing professional catering to the health requirements of Mr HD, I need to make sure that he understands every bit of the procedure that he is going through. In the course of spending more time with the patient, I realized that Mr HD lives in the Hesse region of Germany with his family, which consisted of his wife and a 24 years old son. Mr Hesse worked in a local bakery and his son worked in a construction factory and had only relocated to Australia two years ago. However, language illiteracy can come across one of the biggest hindrances in the context of healthcare (Ossenberg, Henderson, Dalton, 2015). Interpreting Working as a nursing professional looking after the care concerns of Mr HD and family I had identified the possible factors which resulted in the deterioration of the patient health condition. In this context, Mr HD and family held on to a number of cultural beliefs and attributes, which formed the basis of their cultural paradoxes. As per the cultural beliefs of Mr HD, health issues could be treated with simple homely therapies and thus ignored the pain in his lower abdomen. As commented by Gill et al., (2017), sufficient health advocacy or health education can help in removing the wrong health beliefs and cultural paradoxes from the minds of people. In my practice, I encountered a similar situation in the past, where I had to take charge of an 85-year-old lady of Australian aboriginal context. The woman had been admitted to the hospital at the terminal stage of breast cancer and was unwilling to receive chemotherapy stating that the intention of the almighty needs to translate. Thus, I had difficulty in convincing her for treatment owing to her strict and firm spiritual beliefs. However, I received sufficient participation from her family who could otherwise identify with the requirements of the situation. Here, with respect to providing care and support to Mr HD, I found that he does not remember half of the conversations that transpired between him and the doctor. Therefore, I organised a meeting between the doctor and the patient and his respective family. The conversation was further supported by an interpreter and made sure that I record all the relevant conversation between the doctor and the patient. The recorded helped in completing the consent form of the surgery (Nielsen, Lasater, Stock, 2016). Responding In this context, for providing Mr HD with optimum care and support I could apply a number of nursing principles and standards. Through the application of the Nursing and Midwifery standards (NMBA), I could ensure that the patient or his immediate family are given sufficient autonomy to provide their consent for the surgery. It would be my goal to ensure that complete details are provided to the patient as per the policies of informed decision making regarding the surgeries and other measures. I had used the standard 1 of NMBA ethics and guidelines and analysing the present situation. One of the major hindrances I have faced over here includes the cross-cultural and language barriers which prevented me in fully comprehending the present situation of the patient. Here, the use of situation, background, assessment and recommendation (SBAR) tool was used by me, which is a communication tool and helps in understanding the complications associated with the patients through an empathetic and situational analysis. Criteria for standard 1 of NMBA The standard 1 promulgates the use of evidence-based frameworks in accessing and understanding the current situation of the patient. The standard 1 helps in complying with the policies, legislation and guidelines. Reflection on action and clinical learning As a nursing professional, I have developed my skills in a number of different areas of healthcare which helped me enhance my expertise in caring for a vulnerable lot of people. Thus, I had gained experience in the areas of effective communication, care framework development and developed and empathetic approach to patient care. However, in case of facing a similar situation again, I think the present experiences would help me in framing effective evaluative frameworks for analysing the present situation.
